Accreditation Agencies & Higher Education Associations in Canada

In Canada, post-secondary education is the responsibility of provincial and territorial governments, and each jurisdiction has its own quality-assurance mechanisms.  There's no formal accreditation system.

Following are the Associations and Organizations:
  1. Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC)

    The Association of Canadian Community Colleges, formed in 1972, is a national organization that supports the maintenance of high-quality programming in colleges.
  2. Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC)

    Since 1911, The Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada has eased the evolution of public policy on higher education and represented Canadian public and private not-for-profit universities and university-degree level colleges.  The AUCC is involved in accreditation of programs as a form of educational quality assurance.
  3. Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA)

    The Canadian Alliance of Student Associations was established in 1995 with an aim to represent and safeguard the students' interests at both the federal and inter-provincial levels.
  4. Canadian Association of College & University Student Services (CACUSS)

    The Canadian Association of College and University Student Services (CACUSS), created in 1973, is a professional association representing and assisting those individuals who work in Canadian post-secondary institutions in student affairs and services.
  5. Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT)

    Functioning since 1951, the Canadian Association of University Teachers is a confederation of independent associations and trade unions that works to enhance the quality and accessibility of higher education.
  6. Canadian Council on Learning (CCL)

  7. Canadian Bureau for International Education

    Since 1966, the Canadian Bureau for International Education has worked to promote Canada's international relations through international education.
  8. Canadian Federation of Students (CFS)

    The Canadian Federation of Students, developed in 1981, is the largest student organization in Canada. It was formed with an intention to encourage high quality, accessible post-secondary education at the federal level and provincial levels.
  9. Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences

    The Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, known as the Federation, is a non-profit charitable organization. It serves as the national voice for researchers in the humanities and social sciences in Canada.
  10. Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education (CSSHE)

    The Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education was established in 1970 to create an avenue for post-secondary researchers to communicate more effectively through comprehensive programs and partnerships.
  11. Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC)

    The Council of Ministers of Education, Canada was established in 1967 to provide leadership in education at the pan-Canadian and international levels and contributes to the fulfillment of the constitutional responsibility for education conferred on provinces and territories.
  12. National Association of Career Colleges (NACC)

    Established in 1896, the National Association of Career Colleges is the oldest recognized higher education association and voice of career colleges in Canada.
  13. Society of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE)

    The Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, formed in 1981, is an association of faculty members that look at teaching and learning in higher education and work towards its improvement.
  14. U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities

    The U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities, formed in 1991, represents Canada's fifteen most research-intensive schools and supports the researchers of all fields.
